Hailing from the coast region of Southern Alabama, I embarked on a journey to the great state of Texas in pursuit of a higher education and a better life. Little did I know that this new chapter would intertwine my fate with that of a remarkable young lady who would later become my beloved wife. It was she who would introduce me to the captivating world of cigars, forever altering my perception of life’s little pleasures. As a testament to our love, on our inaugural anniversary, she surprised me with a box of Diamond Crown cigars; a fantastic cigar manufactured by J.C. Newman Cigar Company. From that moment forward, a captivating allure took hold of me, leaving an indelible mark on my heart and igniting a passion that has lasted to this day. I gained a life long passion and love that day. Not only did I know that she was the one, but I also came to realize that the premium tobacco industry was the one for me too. Shortly after my 18th birthday, I found myself in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. It was there, in a smoke filled lounge, that I got my first up close experience with the world of premium cigars. In typical, teenage fashion, I decided on the largest and cheapest Churchill cigar that I could find. This cigar was a Maduro Churchill, which although typically packed with flavor, is generally more geared towards veteran smokers. It was a smoke that lived up to that very notion in every way. Not only was it the wrong choice for a newbie like me at the time, but it certainly packed a lot of flavor as well. It was the first cigar to open my eyes to the world of premium cigars and showed me how complex and robust the industry of fine tobacco can be. It set me on a journey to find and appreciate better and better premium cigars and tobacco.
Since that moment, I have had the opportunity to experience cigars of all shapes, sizes, quality. They’ve been with me through the good times, and they’ve been a part of some of the bad ones too. Along the way, its allowed me to learn the ins and outs of cigars, and its helped me navigate my way to becoming the more seasoned appreciator that I am today. This journey fuels my passion for this great industry, and it has shown me why the world needs more exposure to premium cigars. They have the power to create great memories and experiences, and I have come to learn that fine tobaccos have the power to build community, camaraderie, and understanding. Three things the world needs more of now more than any ever.
